Students get fit with new equipment on campus

The fitness center on campus is one of the more modern areas on the campus. It boasts eight racquetball courts, an open gym and new high-tech machines.

“This past summer I bought four new treadmills and two recumbent bikes that have internet capabilities.” says Tara Cunningham, Delta’s fitness and recreation center manager.  “There’s an app for your phone so you can have all of your pre-selected workouts. So when you use these pieces of equipment you can just scan your app and go to your favorite workouts.”

Membership plans include $45 dollars per semester if you’re currently in a lifelong wellness class or varying memberships such as $28 per month, $90 for four months, or  $237 for a full year for students or faculty currently enrolled.

Other membership perks include full access to the pool area, towel service and a 20 percent discounted rate for bringing in up to two guests. The fitness center can be a very helpful tool for students looking to get in shape. There are also basketball courts provided for paying members.

New members receive a free fitness consultation which is used to show people who are new to the world of fitness how to work the equipment. It also gives them a benchmark of where they should be starting on certain machines and what they can personally do to become fit and healthier individuals.

The fitness center is located at P-110 and is open Monday -Thursday from 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday from  6 a.m. to 7:30 pm, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5:30 pm. For more information contact the fitness center at 989-686-9026 or e-mail the them at fitness@delta.edu.
