“Everybody Is Going To Heaven”: Citizen takes a dark turn

By Alex Kostka, Staff Reporter.

With the Toledo/Detroit based band Citizen continuing to rise to the top, it’s clear that their new album “Everybody Is Going To Heaven” should not go unheard.

Providing 10 powerful tracks to its listener, “Everybody Is Going To Heaven” will present to you the heavier direction the band is taking. This is a follow up to their debut “Youth,” which set a standard for its emo/melodic genre in 2013.

The record is varied. Certain songs, such as “Heaviside,” will bring out the softer side of the band. “Weave Me” explores the feeling of becoming new again, while the hard hitting track “Stain,” my personal favorite, provides a huge bass line and powerful screams. Citizen has no problem with writing songs that can bring out pure honesty for the listener.

The album is worth a solid listen starting with track one and going right through to the end of track 10. You can catch the band on tour as they come to the Royal Oak music hall on Oct 31.
