New interim Delta president decided upon at trustee meeting

Delta College Board of Trustee members held a meeting on Oct. 7 to discuss the resignation of Delta president Michael Gavin and who will be replacing him, as well as reflecting on what Gavin meant to them.

The board came to the decision to accept Gavin’s resignation and to promote Executive Director of Administrative Services and Institutional Effectiveness Andrea Ursuy as the interim president effective Jan. 1, 2026.

“Ms. Ursuy directs strategic planning, coordinates organizational development initiatives, and oversees human resources, institutional research and the Faculty Center for Teaching Excellence. She serves as the Accreditation Liaison Officer (ALO) for the college with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). In addition, she serves as the secretary to the Board of Trustees, the legal/policy liaison and the college’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Coordinator.” According to the Delta website

The search will be on for a permanent president next year as board chair Stacey L. Gannon said, “The hope is to have a new president by July 1 of next year.”

It was an emotional meeting as board member Michael Wood discussed how his first board meeting was Gavin’s first board meeting as president.

“My first board meeting as a trustee was Doctor Gavin’s first board meeting as president of the college, so to see him leave now, I thought he’d be here another 20 years,” said an emotional Wood.

Board chair Gannon reflected on running into Gavin at the airport the day after he was interviewed.

“I happened to run into Doctor Gavin the day after we interviewed him. I was flying somewhere you were flying somewhere and there you were. We had a great conversation, and I walked away feeling like ‘that’s our guy, he’s going to come,’ and I’m so glad he did,” said Gannon on the verge of tears.  President Gavin made an impact on everyone in his short time at Delta, and we’ll have to wait and see what Andrea Ursuy will do with her time as interim president and what the future holds as far as who the permanent president of Delta College will become next year.
