Delta women’s soccer wins national championship

By Blake Metiva

On Nov. 17 the women’s soccer team had a date with destiny. The national title awaited, but the Mohawk Valley Community College Hawks stood in their way.

The girls had been here before. Just over a year ago they faced the Dallas College Brookhaven Bears and were favored in that final. Delta was a game away from a perfect season and a national title. They would lose in the final 1-0 and come away with another second place finish, the fourth in program history.

But that was then, and this is now. The Pioneers steamrolled through their first two matches. They defeated Community College of Rhode Island 6-0 on Wednesday Nov. 13, and defeated Suffolk Community College 8-0 on Friday Nov. 15.

Then came the final. On a crisp New York night the soccer team finished off its magical season. After a tightly contested thirty minutes, Peyton Pratt found Isabella Workman to take a 1-0 lead into halftime. 37 seconds into the second half, Kendall Jackson scored to make it 2-0. Two minutes later Anna Sabo scored Delta’s final goal of the match, bringing the score to 3-0. The dream of taking the title and a perfect 15-0 record home came true.

Congratulations to the National Champions!
