The Delta College women’s soccer team has a chance to win another championship today. The Pioneers will face off against the Owens Express at 1:00 p.m. for the Great Lakes District championship.
In the first game the Pioneers met the Joliet Junior College Wolves of Joliet, Illinois. Delta dominated the match coming away with an 11-2 victory. Molly Siler scored a hat-trick in the first half before adding a fourth in the second half, Mikalah Lewis scored twice and added two assists, and five players (Anna Sabo, Abigail Hendy, Kaylee Shattuck, Peyton Pratt, and Aidda Freeman) scored to finish the goal fest.
In game two the Owens took on the Rochester Community and Technical College Yellow Jackets (Rochester, Minnesota). The Express entered the match as the underdog with Rochester being the sixth ranked team in the nation and Owens unranked. Owens would cause an upset, winning 4-0. Kamryn Clifton would score twice with Autumn Schroeder and Libby Ewing each picking up goals.
The Pioneers and Express have already played twice this season. Their first matchup was on Sep. 28, in which Delta would win 2-0. The teams met again one week ago in the Region 12 Championship game. Delta would win 5-0 to win their eighth straight Region 12 title.
