Do you own an iPad mini or an iPad air? Would you like a case that’s durable enough to protect your investment against drops and bumps, yet offers the versatility to use your device as a laptop, etc.?
The “Rugged Folio” from Zagg can be used in four different ways:
- Case mode
- Book mode
- Keyboard mode
- Video mode
In “Case mode” you can separate the iPad from the keyboard, so you can use your iPad the way it was originally intended. “Book mode” allows you to store the keyboard underneath the iPad for easy gripping when reading your favorite ebook. “Keyboard mode” allows you to attach the iPad to the keyboard for use as a mini laptop for broader typing capabilities (i.e. emails, writing papers, etc.). “Video mode” allows you to put the iPad on the keyboard backwards in the magnetic hinge and the keyboard will function as a stand so you can easily view your favorite movies or shows. The case also acts like a smart case and will lock your iPad when closed in the “keyboard mode” or waken the iPad when opened.
The keyboard has a backlit feature which can easily be dimmed or intensified depending on the typing situation you find yourself in. The lighted keyboard can also be set to a variety of different colors: red, blue, aqua, yellow, purple, etc. The keyboard connects to the iPad via bluetooth, it comes with a charging cord and can hold a charge up to two years (depending on the usage) on a single charge. You don’t lose keyboard functionality either. The keyboard is set up about the same as larger computers, except some functions must be accessed by holding down the Fn key because some keys hold multiple functions.
The part of the case which houses the iPad is hooked to the keyboard by a strong magnetic binding, for easy separation between both the iPad and the keyboard.
Overall the feel of the Zagg “Rugged Folio” is exactly how it is described, “rugged.” According to the zagg.com website the case itself is built with “durable silicon rubber, stainless steel, and polycarbonate.” The case may be heavier and thicker than some people may like when it comes to portability of their devices. I, however, haven’t found the weight to be a problem. I enjoy knowing the fact that my device is protected against all of life’s accidents (other than being dropped in water) while having the amount of versatility this case offers. I can use it for typing when I need to or when I don’t. I can easily store the keyboard or take it off when I just want to use my iPad.
As far as pricing goes, the Zagg “Rugged Folio” will set you back about $139.99 for the iPad mini version or $149.99 for the iPad air version. I would definitely shop around for a lower price before purchasing. I got mine at a low price from Amazon around the Christmas season last year.
So if you own one of the iPad models this case will fit and you have been looking for a more rugged, versatile case for longer typing sessions, then check out the “Rugged Folio” by Zagg.
