The Delta women’s basketball team seemed to be in the right place at the right time, winning 7 out of their last 11 games heading into the District Tournament. They fell to Schoolcraft before their tournament game against them, 61-56, but that was in the rear-view mirror. This game was for all the marbles, with the winner earning a spot in the regional tournament on Thursday.
Things started out OK for Delta, as they used the three-point shot to their advantage to take a 21-11 lead halfway through the first half. However, Schoolcraft cut the lead to 27-22 at the break.
The big question for the second half was, “Could Delta hold the lead, survive and advance?” The answer was yes–for seventeen minutes of the second half. Delta had the lead from 11 minutes left in the first half to three minutes left in the game. Aided by an 11-0 run, Schoolcraft took the lead with 3 minutes left, 62-60.
Two three-pointers from Champagne Arthur helped the Pioneers stay in the contest, but Delta was outscored 15-11 in the last 3 minutes as Schoolcraft has the upper hand over Delta once again, 77-71.
Leading the scoring for the Ocelots was Ashley Bland with 29 points, Elise Tolbert with 18, and T’era Nesbitt with 17.
For Delta, Champagne Arthur lead the way with 22 points, Dy’Mond Perry had 20 and Cassidy Vieau had 9.
The season for Delta has come to an end, and now they face a long off-season.
