Winter is here in Michigan, and it looks like it’s here to stay. With the first snowfall, you have to expect the unexpected. A few inches of snow should be nothing to worry about, but people seem to forget how to drive in the winter weather. Michigan drivers have been driving in the heat and rain over the last six months, so it is reasonable to prepare yourself to play offense when driving during the snow. As if some of us haven’t lived here our entire lives and should be used to the snow, that’s just not how it works.
Driving through Ann Arbor on Saturday night was not the best idea one could have. With the Michigan vs. Ohio State football game, you can expect traffic, and then you add on the first snowfall Michigan has seen since last winter. Car pile-ups, cars sliding, slush, and black ice played a massive factor in cars slowing down to 45-50 MPH on the freeway.
It is crucial to make sure your tires are up-to-date and have snow tires accessible to you. Don’t forget your ice scraper, gloves, emergency reflectors, blanket, and small tool kit just in case.
