Saginaw — Something we can all agree upon for the year 2020, is that it has been a year of extremes. It’s still difficult to imagine that wearing a mask is now considered the new social norm.
Since Delta College is now open for Fall semester it’s time to start giving some thought to our back to school wardrobes. With COVID-19 still hanging around we need to be sure that part of that new wardrobe includes a face mask and some sanitary precautions. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention wearing a mask is not just to protect you, it’s to protect others in case you get sick.
One perk of wearing a mask is that it doesn’t have to be plain. So long as your mask contains multiple layers of fabric to help reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19, almost any material is suitable.
This means that there is more room for creativity. So, if you’re tired of wearing a plain mask…chances are it’s time to spice things up. But where can you get a more exciting mask?
Online shops like Etsy that support independent sellers, have a wide variety of masks you can choose from for both adults and children. Masks range from having 3D sewn on flowers all the way to funky holographic designs.
Even larger retailers like Walmart have stepped up their mask selling game. Walmart recently started carrying more exciting masks that come in packs of two or more. Mask varieties have consisted of superheroes, colorful bandana patterns, barbie patterns and even quotes from the popular television show F.R.I.E.N.D.S.
If you’re currently short on funds, there are other ways of having a mask without spending money. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has instructions on their website on how to make a face mask using an old T-shirt or a bandana. Sewing instructions are also available to those who want to sew their own mask.
Remember, wearing a mask is a courtesy not just to yourself but to others around you as well. Though wearing a mask may be part of our everyday lives for the time being, there is no rule saying we can’t make them stylish, fun, and safe for everyone.
