UNIVERSITY CENTER – The Delta College men’s basketball team ended their 2019-2020 season at 14-16, a season that ended in a very exciting playoffs run in the NJCAA Division II Great Lakes East Men’s Basketball Tournament.

In the quarterfinals, the Pioneers upset the second seeded Macomb Community College 67-63 and in the semifinals, the Pioneers upset the third seed in Wayne County Community College 78-72. Then, the Pioneers headed into the championship game against the one seed Schoolcraft College and lost 71-66 in a hard-fighting effort, ending the 2019-2020 season on a good note.

The 2019-2020 Pioneer men’s team has three players making the MCCAA Eastern All-Conference teams:

Delvonte McCloud

2nd Team All-Conference, averaging 12.2 PPG, 6.8 RPG and 1.4 SPG

Goliath Mitchell

3rd Team All-Conference, averaging 21.8 PPG (tenth in the nation), 6.8 RPG and 3.6 APG

Anthony Sanders

Honorable Mention, averaging 8.8 PPG (shooting 50% from the field) and 3.9 RPG

After the team went all the way to the championship round of the NJCAA Division II Great Lakes East Men’s Basketball Tournament, the players are getting a lot of talk from other schools – which is amazing for the players since there’s a lot of talent on this team.

With this season over, hopefully the next will be more progressive and see the team make nationals.
